When Gabriel to Earth from Heaven came
To herald winter’s end, the dawn of spring,
He found the one with none of Adam’s shame;
He found the mother of his unborn king.
The stranger had appeared to Mary’s awe
Inside her home, within the dark of night.
And when she went to look at him, she saw
And feared his countenance that shone with light.
But the archangel found the woman’s face
A second sun, so blinding in its glare.
He trembled at this woman full of grace,
Above his kind, glorious beyond compare.
Then both the saints within their souls felt weak,
But on the strength of God began to speak.
