I left the church again
On Sunday afternoon.
I sang about amen
Then sung a different tune.
I saw Him once a week.
I shook His hand and walked.
To pass the one I seek —
The angels must have balked.
I listened to His preaching;
I lost it in the pews.
We must forget His teaching
To fight the fight and lose.
I left Him at the chalice.
I told Him, until then.
I never bore Him malice.
We never met again.
