A thousand, thousand stars ablaze above
Have spilled their silver light upon our shore
To chase away the shadows with their love,
Enlighten us with something to adore.
These ancient fires still burned when we were young
And even still back when the earth was new,
When none admired the way that they’d been hung
Upon the solemn sky of black and blue.
It’s harder now to see their smiling glow.
These lights of ours almost crowd out the night.
But though their glimmer’s paler now, we know
The darkness always melts before their light.
