Said Sun to Moon, “Good morn.” Said Moon, “Good night.”
Said Sun, “How was the shift?” Said Moon, “It was.”
Said Sun, “Do you want to watch the morning light?”
Said Moon, “I am afraid I can’t, because
I’ve worked so hard, and now I need to rest.”
Said Sun, “You work so hard.” Said Moon, “I know.”
Said Sun, “I know you give the stars your best.”
Said Moon, “I have to go.” Said Sun, “Then go.”
Said Sun to no one in particular,
“Each time, our paths are perpendicular,
For Moon is never out until I’ve set
But sets as soon as I am up — and yet
One morning, Moon will wait for me to rise.
And then, together, we will light the skies.”
